MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Violent clashes erupted in Charlottesville on Saturday at a white supremacist demonstration. The violence left at least one woman killed after a far-right protester drove his car into a crowd of counter-protesters.
"The scenes at the right-wing extremist march were absolutely repulsive — naked racism, anti-Semitism and hate in their most evil form were on display … Such images and chants are disgusting wherever they may be and they are diametrically opposed to the political goals of the chancellor and the entire German government," Seibert said, as quoted by the Deutsche Welle broadcaster.
He pointed out that Merkel stands in solidarity with the relatives of the killed woman.
US President Donald Trump has condemned the violence in Charlottesville and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
