The Russian Embassy in India will be headed by Deputy Director of the General Secretariat of the Russian Foreign Ministry Nikolai Kudashev, local media reported Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The previous Russian ambassador to India, Alexander Kadakin, who held this position since October 2009, following a 1999-2004 stint at the post, died in January 2017 due to heart failure. During the last six months, Russia was represented in New Delhi by Charge d’Affairs of Russia in India Anatoly Kargapolov.

"The candidacy of Nikolai Kudashev for the post of the Russian ambassador to India was supported by the international affairs committees of the Federation Council and the State Duma at the end of May," a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry told the Izvestia newspaper.

Nikolai Kudashev is a career diplomat and specialist in Southeast Asia. In 2014-2015, he was the Russian ambassador to Micronesia and the Marshall Islands.
