MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Egypt's armed forces on Tuesday foiled a planned car-bomb attack in North Sinai region and destroyed a hideout of militants, local media reported.
The country's air force participated in the operation that resulted in the elimination of the hideout, which was used to carry out attacks against the military, Ahram Online outlet reported, citing military spokesman Tamer Rifai.
"This is a continuation of the efforts of the armed forces in combating terrorist activity and pursuing militant elements," Rifai said, as quoted by the newspaper.
The Egyptian authorities have been engaged in an ongoing conflict with insurgents in the Sinai peninsula. Some local groups have claimed allegiance to the Daesh terror group (banned in Russia).
