The terrorist group Jabhat Fatah al Sham (banned in Russia, formerly known as the Nusra Front) tried to derail Russia's efforts to establish a de-escalation zone in northern Syria by shelling one of the Aleppo's neighborhoods, a Russian military-diplomatic source in the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) told Sputnik.

GENEVA (Sputnik) — A rocket attack on Al-Akramia district of Aleppo on Tuesday took lives of at least four local residents and wounded nine others from. No group has taken the responsibility for the attack yet.

"The recent shelling of the western districts of Aleppo with unguided rockets is a provocation of the Nusra Front aimed at disrupting the ceasefire and efforts of the Russian Federation to establish a de-escalation zone in these areas," the source said, adding that Russia decisively condemns actions which lead to civilian casualties.

Syrian Militias Seek Contact With Russia to Set Up Safe Zone in Country's North
There are plans to set up de-escalation zones in four areas: Idlib, north of Homs, in Eastern Ghouta immediately east of Damascus, and in the country’s south, including parts of Daraa and Quneitra provinces.

The zones are aimed at soothing the consequences of the brutal civil war in Syria, during which the government forces have been fighting against both Syrian opposition groups who strive to overthrow President Bashar Assad, and numerous extremist and terrorist groups such as Daesh.

The memorandum on the establishment of de-escalation zones was signed in May by Iran, Russia and Turkey, the three guarantor states of the Syrian ceasefire regime. The zones are deemed to be established for six months with the option of extending them automatically for another six months.
