MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The employment rate among UK citizens aged from 16 to 64 reached 75.1 percent in the second quarter of 2017, which is the highest rate since the records started in 1971, the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The proportion of people aged from 16 to 64 in work is known as the employment rate… For the latest time period, April to June 2017, the employment rate for people was 75.1%, the highest since comparable records began in 1971… For April to June 2017, there were 32.07 million people in work, 125,000 more than for January to March 2017 and 338,000 more than for a year earlier," the statement said.
The statement added that the record female employment was caused by the changes in the country's State Pension system that resulted in retirement of fewer women aged from 60 to 65.
