GAZA STRIP (Sputnik) — A security police officer was killed and five others were injured Thursday when an attacker detonated a bomb at Gaza’s border with Egypt, the interior ministry of the Palestinian exclave said.
"Police tried to stop two militants heading for the Egyptian border, one of the militants blew himself up," Eyad al-Bosom, a spokesman for the ministry, said.
Local sources familiar with the incident told Sputnik the attackers were members of the Islamic State terror group (Daesh).
The Gaza Strip is controlled by a Palestinian military movement, Hamas. The exclave has been under Israeli blockade for a decade.
