WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Trump named Bannon, who was an executive chairman of the right-wing website Breitbart News, as his chief of staff on November 14.
"If there’s any confusion out there, let me clear it up: I’m leaving the White House and going to war for Trump against his opponents — on Capitol Hill, in the media, and in corporate America," Bannon told Bloomberg News on Friday.
Earlier in the day, White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced Bannon and Chief of Staff John Kelly mutually decided this would be the chief strategist's last day.
Democrats immediately supported Bannon's exit citing his record of anti-Semitic, racist viewpoints. However, House of Representatives minority leader Nancy Pelosi said that his departure is meaningless unless the Trump administration changes its policies.
