10:30 GMT 18.08.2017 (Updated: 12:12 GMT 18.08.2017) The Russian Defense Ministry released a video featuring the Severodvinsk nuclear attack submarine firing a Kalibr cruise missile while submerged at ground-based targets located hundreds of kilometers away.
This underwater missile launch was carried out at the Northern Fleet testing area in the Barents Sea.
The missile was fired at a ground target located at the Chizha testing range in Arkhangelsk Region, some 600 kilometers (about 373 miles) away from the launch area.
Kalibr cruise missiles were originally designed to be used by Russian Project 885 Yasen-class nuclear submarines, but were eventually adapted to be used by Project 636 Varshavyanka submarines and by the surface ships of the Russian Navy.
