MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Israeli troops used stun grenades and fired tear gas canisters against the demonstrators, including foreign activists in the village of Bilin in the West Bank where the so-called separation wall is located, the Palestinian Wafa News Agency reported.
The West Bank separation wall is a barrier constructed in the early 2000s along the demarcation line set out in the 1949 Armistice of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
The wall is considered by Israel as a security barrier against terrorism. The barrier's opponents among the Palestinians, in turn, call it a manifestation of racial segregation and claim that by the construction of the barrier Israel aims at annexing the Palestinian land under the pretext of security and undermines the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations by unilaterally establishing new borders.
