Kazakh Prime Minister Bakhytzhan Sagintayev discussed with Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah the development of the Central Asian region's transit potential and cooperation in railway construction, Sagintayev’s press service said Saturday.

ALMATY (Sputnik) — Additionally, issues of further development of trade and economic cooperation and the implementation of the agreements reached by the heads of the two states during the visit of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to Astana in November 2015 have been discussed, according to the press service.

"Measures for improving the transit potential of the region and the prospects of bilateral cooperation in the field of construction of railways have been reviewed. In addition, the issue of continued bilateral cooperation in the field of education has been raised," the statement issued after the meeting reads.

In 2015, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and his Afghan counterpart Ghani discussed issues of trade, economic, transport, transit, agricultural, cultural and humanitarian cooperation as well as security concerns. Following the talks, a bilateral agreement on cooperation in the fields of civil defense, prevention and liquidation of emergency situations, as well as an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of culture were signed.
