Damascus, Hezbollah Free 34 Square Miles at Syrian-Lebanese Border From Daesh

Syrian government forces and Lebanese militia Hezbollah liberated 87 square kilometers (33.6 square miles) of territory on the Lebanese-Syrian border from Daesh terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia), a source in Hezbollah told Sputnik on Sunday.

BEIRUT (Sputnik) — On Saturday, the Lebanese army launched an operation to defeat Daesh terrorists on its side of the border with Syria. At the same time, Hezbollah along with Syrian army is conducting operations against Daesh on the Syrian side of the border.

"The Syrian army and Hezbollah fighters… liberated eighty-seven square kilometers of a total area of 155 square kilometers of western Qalamoun city [on the border with Lebanon], seized by the IS [Daesh]," the source said.

A source in Hezbollah told Sputnik on Friday that small groups of Daesh militants had been surrendering to Hezbollah near a checkpoint at the Syrian-Lebanese border.
