Italy, as well as any other country, cannot feel secured from the terrorist threat, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni said Sunday.

ROME (Sputnik) — On Friday, a range of Islamist websites linked to Daesh (banned in Russia) announced that after van attacks in Spain the next target was Italy.

"I do not believe the propaganda of Islamist websites, but I realize that no country, including Italy, can feel secured from the [terrorist] threat," Gentiloni said at the opening of the Catholic "meeting for friendship among peoples" event in the Italian city of Rimini.

The prime minister stressed that despite the losses aesh suffered in the Middle East the threat posed by the organization is still relevant.

"Daesh has been defeated, it has failed in reaching its main goal of turning its terrorist presence into a state. But the threat still concerns everyone," Gentiloni said.

On Thursday and early Friday, Spain's Barcelona and Cambrils faced two van ramming attacks, which have killed over a dozen of people and left over 130 more injured. Daesh claimed responsibility for the attacks.
