BEIRUT (Sputnik) – The Lebanese military managed to destroy car and motorcycle bombs carrying terrorists which allowed Lebanese forces to avoid more casualties, the statement added.
"A vast territory along the Lebanon-Syria border is covered by [Lebanese] fire. Today around 30 square kilometers [11.8 square miles] have been cleared [from terrorists]. Thus, since the beginning of the ‘Jroud Dawn’ offensive, 80 out of 120 square kilometers have been liberated … Around 15 terrorists have been killed and 12 IS [Daesh] strongholds destroyed as part of the operation," the document read, adding that three Lebanese servicemen were killed and one injured during the operation.
Lebanon announced the start of the offensive against Daesh enclave on the northeast part its border with Syria on Saturday. Damascus and Lebanese militia movement Hezbollah are also currently carrying out their anti-Daesh offensive on the Syrian side of the border.
