KIEV (Sputnik) – Ukrainian and US military experts have participated in joint drills aimed at countering improvised explosive devices, Ukrainian National Police said in a statement on Sunday.

"Nearly 40 Ukrainian police officers have exchanged their experience with US colleagues in the area of examining an explosion site after an improvised explosive device had blown up," the statement said, adding that such drills will be carried out on a regular basis in the future.

A total of 27 Ukrainian bomb specialists and 10 members of the police’s KORD special unit alongside staff of the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center (TEDAC) have participated in the drills in the Ukrainian city of Lviv, the statement added.

In January, the Ukrainian Parliament adopted a law allowing foreign troops to be present in the country in 2017 to participate in multinational drills.

In July, Ukraine hosted the 2017 Sea Breeze international naval exercise, involving the US and 16 other countries.

Moreover, earlier this month, US media reported that the US defense and diplomatic establishment had devised a plan to supply lethal arms to Ukraine.

The weapons, characterized as "defensive," may include Javelin man-portable anti-tank missiles, anti-aircraft weapons and other advanced weaponry, according to The Wall Street Journal.
