A Finnish court has revealed the name of an 18-year-old Moroccan suspected of attacking people in the town of Turku on Friday.

The suspected attacker, Abderrahman Mechkah, is accused of murdering two women, and attempted murder with terrorist intent, according to the court.

Local police request that the individual, in hospital at the moment, be detained.

On Friday, two people were killed and eight others were injured in a knife attack at Turku's market square. The suspect arrived in Turku last year and was trying to obtain asylum in Finland.

"It seems that the suspect chose women as his targets, because the men who were wounded were injured when they tried to help, or prevent the attacks," Crista Granroth from the National Bureau of Investigation has said.

On Sunday, Finland observed a minute of silence to pay tribute to the stabbing attack victims.
