The 32-year-old resident of a Paris suburb said he didn't think the photo to be true.
The misdemeanor was reported to the French authorities by one of his Facebook friends.
When police acted upon the report, they found two fake assault rifles in his apartment. Nevertheless, when analyzing the man's computer, no suspicious content was found by police.
"I did not condone terror. I thought it was a stunt. I only wanted to mock the photo. I never shared or commented or posted any other articles," the man said.
The man had a private account and enabled privacy settings.
"When we like something it means that we're not shocked by it," the prosecution has claimed.
