MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Ukrainian Embassy in Washington said on Monday that the US supplier XCoal Energy & Resources made its first shipment to Ukraine as part of deal with Ukraine's state-owned power generation company Centrenergo.
"We do not have any restrictions between the supply of coal from Russia to Ukraine. We are certainly interested in maintaining the volumes of these supplies, they annually make up about 10 million tons," Deputy Energy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky told reporters.
"They are compensating these supplies [of thermal coal] from other countries. Therefore, this is a supply of mainly thermal coal and we have never actually supplied this coal from Russia," the deputy minister said.
Earlier, the White House press secretary said that the Ukrainian government's decision to purchase American thermal coal will boost the US economy and help it establish global energy dominance.
