KIEV (Sputnik) — Ukraine's state-owned power generation company Centrenergo PJSC announced late in July it would purchase US thermal coal ahead of the upcoming winter season.
"The shipment of thermal coal to Ukraine was established by an agreement between the Ukrainian state company Centrenergo and the US company XCoal Energy & Resources," the embassy said in a Facebook post Monday.
The agreement was said to have been reached during Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's visit to the United States in June.
On July 31, Ukraine's state-owned power generation company Centrenergo PJSC announced that it would purchase American thermal coal from Xcoal in the US state of Pennsylvania. The White House stated the partnership will provide Ukraine with a secure, reliable alternative energy source ahead of the winter months.
