MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Former French President Francois Hollande on Wednesday ruled out abandoning a life in politics, local media reported.
"Even though I decided, for reasons which I had indicated, not to go [up for reelection], as there was a situation which seemed too dangerous for me, I have said that I would not withdraw from political life," Hollande told the TV5MONDE television channel.

In November 2016, opinion poll showed that the personal approval rating of Hollande, who was the French president in 2012-2017, dropped to a mere 4 percent, making him the most unpopular president in the country’s history. His image was affected by his inability to resolve such serious problems as unemployment, as well as the deadly terrorist attacks that his Paris and its suburbs in November 2015.
The second round of this year's French presidential election was held on May 7 and resulted in the victory of independent candidate Emmanuel Macron. Hollande did not run for a second term in office.
