MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Cavusoglu will visit Iraq on August 23 where he will hold talks on the agenda of the countries’ relations with senior Iraqi and Kurdish officials, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, Cavusoglu will meet with Iraqi Presidnet Fuad Masum, Prime Minister Haider Abadi, Foreign Minister Ibrahim Jaafari and other senior officials, incluyding Iraqi Turkoman politicians, in Baghdad.
"Subsequently Minister Çavuşoğlu will travel to Erbil," the statement reads.
The Turkish foreign minister will meet in Erbil with Kurdistan Regional Government President Masoud Barzani, according to the ministry.
The Kurds are a Middle Eastern ethnic group with the population of 30-35 million living mainly in Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey. The ethnic group is striving to create its own independent state.
