MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Abderrahman Mechkah, the Moroccan citizen, suspected of committing a stabbing attack in Finnish Turku last week, was seeking to join Daesh terrorist group, media reported Tuesday.
According to Yle broadcaster, Mechkah was listening to radical sermons through his mobile phone and residents of a Turku asylum center have repeatedly informed the leadership of the center about his threatening behavior.
On Friday, two people were killed and eight others were injured in a knife attack in Turku's market square. The key suspect, who was shot by police while being detained, was identified as an 18-year-old Moroccan citizen. The suspect arrived in Turku last year and was trying to get asylum in Finland.
The broadcaster added that the suspect had provided the authorities with false information regarding his name and age.
On Tuesday, a Finnish court took Mechkah into custody.
