MOSCOW (Sputnik) — North Korean authorities guarantee security to all foreign tourists despite unstable situation on the Korean peninsula, Kim Sen Khun, a counselor of the North Korean Embassy in Moscow, said Thursday.
"As for security, North Korea is one of the safest countries in the world. People are united and the political situation is calm inside the country. Tensions are high on the Korean peninsula due to policies against North Korea, but our nuclear and armed forces fully guarantee peace and security on the Korean peninsula. I think this will also be the main guarantee for safe tourism and foreign tourism activity," the counselor said at a presentation of the NKOREAN travel company at Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.
Kim noted that the embassy, in particular, reduced the visa issuing period, and that visas can now be received within three-five days after filing the claim.
The situation on the Korean peninsula has become aggravated in recent months due to a series of missile launches and nuclear tests conducted by Pyongyang in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. On July 4 and July 28, Pyongyang conducted tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). On August 5, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2371, which further tightens sanctions imposed on North Korea.
