MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least 140 militants were killed by Afghan security forces during clearing and air operations in the country's eastern province of Nangarhar in July, local media reported Monday, citing provincial police chief Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi.
During 18 special operations carried out in Nangarhar, 54 militants were also injured, the Pajhwok news agency reported.
The Afghan forces also seized 19 different weapons and 23 vehicles, according to the agency. Additionally, 10 militants joined the peace process as a result of security forces' efforts.
Afghanistan has long been suffering from unstable political, social and security situation due to the simmering militant insurgency, including that of Daesh and Taliban terrorist groups. The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have been conducting joint operations to combat terrorism across the country.
