TEHRAN (Sputnik) — According to media, de Mistura is currently holding negotiations with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hussein Jaber Ansari.
Later in the day, de Mistura is expected to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and other officials, who are engaged in the intra-Syrian talks in Astana.
The next round of the Geneva talks on Syrian settlement is scheduled for September, the same month as a new high-level meeting on Syria in Astana is expected to take place.
The seventh round of negotiations concluded on July 15 with what UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura characterized as "no breakthroughs, no breakdowns."
In May, Iran, Russia and Turkey, the three guarantor states of the Syrian ceasefire regime, signed a memorandum on the establishment of four de-escalation zones at the Syrian settlement talks in Astana.
