MOSCOW (Sputnik) — US Ambassador to Moscow John Tefft, who is completing his mission in Russia, said that his likely successor Jon Huntsman was excited about the chance to work in Russia and looking forward to his arrival in the country.
"I have been in touch with him. […] He is very excited about the chance to work in Russia. […] He is an extraordinary man," Tefft told Russia's Ekho Moskvy (Echo of Moscow) radio station.
Tefft expects that hearings on the candidacy of the new head of the diplomatic mission in Russia will be held in the in the US Senate shortly after the return of the upper house of Congress from the summer recess.
On July 21, US President Donald Trump sent the nomination of former Utah state governor Jon Huntsman for the Senate's approval. The Russian Foreign Ministry has already given preliminary agreement for Huntsman's work in Moscow.
