MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The UK government has offered to give 22 million pounds ($28 million) toward the development of low carbon, waste-based fuels for aircraft and trucks, the UK Department for Transport said Monday in a statement.
"As part of plans to promote clean alternative fuels, the government is offering funding for projects in the UK to develop low carbon waste-based fuels for planes and lorries, with matching funding from industry … The £22 million fund could help us deliver up to 5 new low carbon fuel plants by 2021," the statement reads.
The development of such fuels could potentially create nearly 10,000 new jobs and bring around 600 million pounds a year to the UK economy by 2030, the Department for Transport added.

The move is just another step in country's plan to bring change to the motor industry with ultra-low emission electric cars, according to the statement.

"We want every new car and van in the UK to be zero emission by 2040, but we know lorries and aeroplanes will rely on more traditional fuels for years to come so we must promote environmentally friendly alternatives," Transport Minister Jesse Norman was quoted as saying.
The UK government said it needed low carbon fuel for airplanes and trucks, as it was unreasonable to switch them to electric power due to their heavy weight.
