MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — Mexico has declared the North Korean ambassador persona non grata and has given him 72 hours to leave the country, its Foreign Affairs Secretariat announced Thursday.
"Today, on Thursday, the government of Mexico declared DPRK Ambassador Kim Hyong Gil persona non grata and gave him 72 hours to leave the national territory," the statement read.
Mexico warned North Korea this week that Sunday's nuclear bomb test was a "flagrant violation" of international laws and UN resolutions, which bar Pyongyang from pursuing nuclear weapons. Mexico said it was considering diplomatic action.
The expulsion of the Communist state’s top diplomat is a sign of Mexico’s "absolute rejection" of North Korea’s nuclear activities, which it said posed a serious threat to the region and the world.
