Secret Service Investigating Suspicious Package Near White House

Sputnik White House Correspondent Cara Rinkoff reports that a lockdown is in place on the grounds of the White House. 

Witnesses said the police presence seems larger than usual.

​On Monday, the White House experienced a brief lockdown upon US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump returning to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue from a 9/11 memorial. The Secret Service reported two individuals threw a sign and a notebook over the White House's northern fence line. One suspect was arrested by the Washington DC Police Department, the president's security team said via Twitter. 

The "suspicious package has been cleared," the Secret Service announced via Twitter around 2 p.m. local time.
