Now You See Me, Now You Don't: Up Close View of Amazing Translucent Squid
10:19 GMT 19.09.2017 (Updated: 19:31 GMT 19.10.2022) This incredible squid with tentacles above its head was captured on a video by a team of scientists on the exploration vessel Nautilus. It looks like a fragile glass creation: due to its amazing transparency, one can clearly see its cigar-shaped digestive gland, though color-changing chromatophores flash reddish hues to help the squid blend in.
The uncommon-looking sea creature, commonly known as the glass squid or cockatoo squid, can be found in the North Pacific Ocean and reaches a maximum length of 50 centimeters (20 inches). According to scientists, it floats thanks to an ammonia-filled body.
