“In considering all issues of this region, a general understanding that fighting terrorism is a priority has emerged,” Lavrov said after the talks of the Russian president and the Saudi king.
"King Salman positively assessed the efforts being made on the Syrian settlement within the framework of the Astana format. In its turn, the Russian side supports the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to unite the Syrian opposition," Lavrov said after talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the King Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdel Aziz Al Saud.
Moscow, Riyadh Determined to Increase Cooperation
Russia and Saudi Arabia are determined to increase cooperation in all areas, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said following Moscow talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Thursday.
"It was a friendly, thorough conversation, based on the mutual desire of Moscow and Riyadh to consistently build mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas. Our leaders discussed in detail the state and ways of further development, improving cooperation in the trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian areas," Lavrov said.
Russia and Saudi Arabia signed 14 documents following Moscow talks between President Vladimir Putin and King Salman Ben Abdul Aziz Al Saud on Thursday.
In particular, the governments of the two states signed an agreement on cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes, as well as a "road map" of trade, economic and scientific cooperation and a program for the implementation of cooperation in the field of the use of nuclear energy.
Russia-Saudi Arabia Defense Industry Cooperation Commission to Meet Before 2018
"The leaders of other countries welcomed the creation of yet another commission, the commission on defense industry cooperation, which should hold its first meeting before the end of year," Lavrov said after the talks of the Russian president with the Saudi king.
According to the Russian minister, the Russia-Saudi Arabia intergovernmental commission will meet in late October in Riyadh for the fifth time.
Moscow, Riyadh Agree to Cooperate in Space Exploration, Energy
Russia and Saudi Arabia have agreed to develop cooperation in the fields of space exploration and energy, including nuclear energy, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
"Among prospective fields, on which agreements have been reached today, I can mention energy, not only traditional, but also nuclear energy, cooperation in space exploration, agriculture and infrastructure projects," Lavrov said.
A number of Russian senior officials participate in the negotiations with Saudi Arabia's delegation, including Lavrov, Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov, Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky, Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
