The United Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences also recorded the quake, saying that it occurred in the Pacific Ocean 238 km southeast of the city of Kesennum (Honshu Island, Japan).
According to the information from the service, the epicenter of the earthquake had coordinates 37.64 degrees north latitude and 143.86 degrees east longitude. As of the intensity of concussions in the epicenter, the earthquake is estimated as "devastating".
