MOSCOW (Sputnik) — It is possible to reach an agreement among members of international community to lift sanctions against Russia, and this may happen soon, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Jubeir said Friday.
"We are working with Russia as a friendly country. We, of course, respect the international law, but we do not believe that our investments in Russia violate it. We think that it is possible to reach an agreement in the international community on lifting of these sanctions," Jubeir said in an interview with Rossiya-24 television.
The minister added that, in his opinion, "it could happen soon."
"Our relations with the United States are really a strategic partnership, but we do not believe that we are violating it by developing relations with Russia. We want to cooperate with many countries, including Russia," Jubeir said.
According to the Saudi minister, strong relations with Russia will help successfully resolve the problems arising in the Middle East.
"The same applies to the US. The more partners we have, the better it will be for everyone," Jubeir stressed.
On Wednesday, King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud of Saudi Arabia began his first-ever visit to Russia. During his visit, the Saudi King has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. He discussed bilateral cooperation, the situation in Syria as well as the Middle East, energy and other issues with Russian president.
Also, Russia and Saudi Arabia signed a program of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, a Sputnik correspondent reported earlier.
