MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Guardian newspaper said that the trials would take place in military facilities across the country and media coverage of the proceedings would not be allowed.
The media outlet added that 1,670 suspects were currently at a military base in Kainji in the central part of the country, while 651 others were at the Giwa barracks in Maiduguri in Nigeria's northeast, with many of them having been imprisoned for eight years.
At the same time several analysts and experts from Nigeria, South Africa and the United States, have expressed concerns over the situation that many suspects could have no links to the terrorist group, and could be wrongfully convicted within the framework of the mass trials, the newspaper added.
Since 2009 Nigeria has been facing an insurgency by the Boko Haram jihadists, who have pledged allegiance to the Daesh terror group which is outlawed in Russia. Along with Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon and Chad are also engaged in military operations to fight the Boko Haram terrorists.
