"With many businesses starting to advertise the devices that can interpret conversation between the two languages, Google Pixel Buds will not affect translation jobs at all, he said.
Correia added that while he was not especially impressed by the Pixel Buds headphones, they might be a "fine" device for the ordinary user.
"It is designed for [translating]a normal conversation rather than a technical one, related, for example, to the oil and gas sector, which is why the headphones will be particularly useful for those on vacation," he said, adding that the device is of no interest to professional translators.
When asked about the future of machine translation, Correia said that it "might be good for any limited and specific situations"; according to him, "automatic translation is simply not a reality, something that one should not depend on to provide professional results."
