Polish Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz accused Russia on Friday of cyberattacks against Ukrainian companies with branches abroad and said that one such attack was warded off in Poland.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The minister did not provide any other details.

"While in other European countries [the branches] were disrupted, in Poland they were not… We have seen another, the third, cyber attack by Russia. Fortunately, in Poland we warded it off, but this threat is increasing every day," Macierewicz said as quoted by Radio Poland.

On Monday, Macierewicz said that Polish authorities had decided to establish cyber military units within the national Armed Forces.

The issue of cybersecurity is on top of the defense agenda of numerous counties, since attacks may inflict major damage on governments, economies and individuals. In May, WannaCry malware infected thousands of computers in over 100 countries. Another widely reported series of cyber attacks occurred in late June, impacting a number of countries, including Russia and Ukraine.
