MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Xinhua news agency has reported that the number of people killed in landslides and floods in Vietnam has reached 60, while 31 have been injured.
The agency added, citing the Vietnamese Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, 37 more people were considered to be missing.
The country’s northern and central regions were lashed with a massive downpour on Tuesday, which led to flooding and landslides across several provinces. Over 5,000 families had to leave their homes in the central provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh. On Wednesday, Vietnam’s authorities declared a state of emergency in the northern province of Hoa Binh.
On Thursday, Russian Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov said Moscow was ready to provide assistance to Vietnam in dealing with the aftermath of the disaster.
