What a Weiner: Sex Offender's Laptop Filled With Gov't Files From Huma Abedin

The origin of the documents, related to Abedin's work as Clinton's deputy chief of staff during the latter's tenure as secretary of state, was admitted after Judicial Watch sued the State Department for failing to respond to a Freedom of Information request on emails sent by non-government email addresses.

The FBI found the documents, some of which may be duplicates, on a computer seized from Weiner during the agency's investigation into allegations that the disgraced politician was sexting an underage girl. Weiner was convicted to 21 months of prison time last month over that scandal after pleading guilty to one count of transferring obscene material to a 15 year old minor in May. Weiner and Abedin are currently estranged, and Abedin filed for divorce immediately after his guilty plea.

​Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton called the revelation pertaining to the documents a "disturbing development."

"Our experience with Abedin's emails suggests these Weiner laptop documents will include classified and other sensitive materials," he said. "When will the Justice Department do a serious investigation of Hillary Clinton's and Huma Abedin's obvious violations of law?" he added.

​The State Department expects to complete its review of and to produce the entire cache of 2,800 documents before the end of the year.

Abedin has been at a loss to explain why some of her official work emails had been found on Weiner's computer during the FBI's investigation into his sexual misconduct. Investigators found that just days ahead of the 2016 presidential election, Abedin forwarded secret emails to Weiner, leading the FBI to reopen its probe into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state.

Hillary Clinton has since blamed then-FBI Director James Comey of 'changing history' by reopening the probe days before the November vote.
