SOCHI (Sputnik) – The CIA's statements on the possibility of North Korea launching nuclear weapons are part of an information campaign against the country, Russian State Duma International Affairs Committee Chairman Leonid Slutsky said Friday.
"Washington's policy in relation to countries that it does not like is a daily buildup of negative rhetoric about these countries. Today they can deliver a nuclear strike, tomorrow they possess chemical weapons, the day after tomorrow it is necessary to invade them, destroy their system, leader, turn them into a country without a state, as has happened in Libya and in Iraq," Slutsky said.

"The same happens with a number of other countries — North Korea, Iran and others, which are unsuitable for Washington in terms of building a unipolar global architecture," he told reporters.

He said the fanning of negative rhetoric was dangerous, as it could lead to a war.
US-North Korea tensions escalated after the DPRK launched a series of missiles in August and September 2017. The UN Security Council has introduced new sanctions against Pyongyang, which severely limited the export and import capabilities of the DPRK.
The leaders of the two countries have traded threats that triggered fears of looming war. The most resonant threats include President Trump's vow to meet North Korea with "fire and fury" and Kim's regime's promise to carry out an "unprecedented" strike on the US.
