The incident was believed to be "unconnected to any terrorist activity."

According to local media reports, a man armed with a shotgun has taken hostages at a leisure complex in Nuneaton, Britain.

Hours later, the chief executive of MFA Bowl, which owns the bowling alley, was quoted by BBC as saying that British police had stormed the building and ended the hostage situation. A loud bang has been heard during the police operation.

According to the West Midlands Ambulance Service, a suspect has been taken to hospital.

Earlier in the day, police have confirmed they were responding to the "incident" at Bermuda Park, which was not believed to be linked to terrorism.

The area was placed on lockdown with up to 30 armed officers having arrived, according to the Sunday Express newspaper.

The chief executive of the MFA Bowl, Mehdi Afshar, has said that two staff members had been taken hostage, adding that he believes the armed man was an ex-partner of a worker. "Our priority is the safety of our staff and customers," he told Sky News.

Witnesses cited by local media outlets have described the gunman as being in his 40s and "definitely on something."

Media reports cited eyewitnesses as saying that a police helicopter and air ambulance had been seen over the site.
