Despite the detection by the US-Led coalition forces the considerable stockpiles of chemical weapons in Daesh territories, the US State Department has said that a new UN report makes Damascus responsible for the alleged use of highly toxic agent sarin in Khan Shaykhun.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "This new report confirms unequivocally what the United States and many in the international community have stated publicly for many months — that the Assad regime carried out the heinous April 4 attack killing approximately 100 innocent Syrian civilians, including many children, and injuring hundreds more," the US Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said Friday in a statement. "The [UN] Security Council must send a clear message that the use of chemical weapons by anyone will not be tolerated, and must fully support the work of the impartial investigators," Nauert said.

Meantime, the The Spokesperson for the Operation Inherent Resolve Colonel Ryan Dillon told Sputnik on Friday that the US-led coalition forces have uncovered the stockpiles of chemical weapons that were controlled by the Daesh terror group.

"We have seen a nascent and ineffective use of chemical weapons by ISIS [Daesh] in both Iraq and in Syria," Dillon told Sputnik in a phone interview from Baghdad. "We have found them and we have gone after them and ripped them apart."

Dillon said that the coalition forces also have found an arsenal of largely industrial types of chemical material that could be used when mixed together. The coalition had destroyed the weapons, he added.

On October 26, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons-UN Joint Investigative Mechanism issued a report, which concluded the Syrian government used the chemical agent sarin in the April 4 attack in Khan Shaykhun that killed scores of people.

The OPCW-UN report also determined that the DAesh terror group was responsible for using ‎sulfur mustard on September 15 and 16, 2016 in Syrian Um-Housh.
