MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A 5.8-magnitude earthquake has occurred off the coast of Tonga in the South Pacific Ocean on Tuesday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
The tremor occurred at 04:58 GMT and its epicenter was located 65 kilometers (40 miles) from the Hihifo settlement on Niuatoputapu island at a depth of 35 kilometers.
There is no information about casualties, a tsunami warning has not been issued.

Earlier in the day, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake was registered off the coast of New Caledonia in the Pacific Ocean, with no casualties or damages reported.
