2017 Shooting in Las Vegas
On the night of October 1, a gunman opened fire on a country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip from his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. He fired hundreds of rifle rounds, leaving 58 people dead and 546 injured.
The shooter was 64-year-old Stephen Paddock from Nevada. By the time the police entered the room, he was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident is the deadliest mass shooting committed by an individual in the history of the United States.
Paddock’s motive remains unknown as an investigation of the incident is underway.
2016 Orlando Nightclub Shooting
On June 12, 2006, 49 people were killed and 58 others were wounded as Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old security guard, opened fire inside the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
After a three-hour standoff, he was shot dead by police officers. Shortly after the shooting began, Mateen called 911 and swore allegiance to the leader of Daesh Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. He also told a negotiator that his actions were in response to the US military operations in Syria and Iraq.
Local media also reported that Mateen himself was a frequent visitor to the Pulse club for several years.
The Orlando shooting is the deadliest incident of violence against the LGBT community in US history and remains the deadliest US mass shooting in which the attacker did not kill himself.
2015 San Bernardino Attack
On December 2, 2015, a mass shooting and an attempted bombing occurred at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California. The incident, which was classified as a terrorist attack, left 14 people dead and 22 injured.
The attackers, US-born Syed Rizwan Farook and his Pakistani wife Tashfeen Malik, fled and were killed several hours later by police.
The FBI investigated the incident and concluded that the perpetrators were "homegrown extremists" inspired by foreign terrorist groups.
2015 Charleston Church Shooting
On June 17, 2015, Dylann Roof, a 21-year-old white supremacist, killed nine people and injured one at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina.
The church is one of the United States’ oldest black churches.
Roof was arrested the next morning and later confessed that he acted in hopes of initiating a race war.
He was sentenced to death in January 2017 and to life imprisonment without parole in April 2017.
2017 New York Truck Attack
A vehicular attack took place in New York City on October 31. A man drove a rented truck nearly a mile down a bike path in Manhattan, reportedly hitting 20 people. As the result, eight people have been killed and 11 injured.

The attacker was shot by police, taken to hospital and is presently in custody. Law enforcement sources told media outlets that the incident is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

The perpetrator has been reportedly identified as 29-year-old Uzbek national Sayfullo Saipov who came to the US in 2010.
The attack is the deadliest act of terror in New York since the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
