15:58 GMT 04.11.2017 (Updated: 16:49 GMT 04.11.2017) Saint Petersburg was the cradle of the revolution which erupted on November 7 a hundred years ago and quickly spread to other parts of then Russian Empire, resulting in the country undergoing a civil war and finally reestablishing itself as the Soviet Union.
A splendid video mapping show projected events from the 1917 Great October Socialist Revolution onto Sain Petersburg's Palace Square as Russia starts marking the centenary of the landmark historic event that changed not only the country but the whole world, too.
On November 4, Russian celebrates National Unity Day.
