Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in an interview on Monday he would like to reinforce bilateral cooperation with Washington following the US President Donald Trump's visit to Tokyo.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Monday, Donald Trump held talks with Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, where the two leaders discussed bilateral trade and ways to deter North Korea's nuclear and missile threats among other issues.

Trump said large military and energy orders will be coming from Japan after holding extensive talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Meanwhile, Shinzo Abe pointed out that the strong US-Japan alliance was the cornerstone for the peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

Shinzo Abe added that diplomatic dialogue with North Korea would be meaningless. Based on Japan's prior experience, Abe said, North Korea has been stalling negotiations to buy time and further develop its nuclear program.

Trump Requests Over $5Bln Extra Defense Spending for North Korea, Afghanistan
Earlier on Monday, Abe said during a speech following his meeting with Donald Trump that it was the time "for applying about maximum level of pressure on North Korea." He noted that interception of Pyongyang's missiles was possible through coordination of actions between Japan and the United States. US President Donald Trump, in turn, noted that if Tokyo purchased arms from the United States, the country would be capable of shooting down Pyongyang's missiles.

After the visit to Japan, the US president will make stop in South Korea to continue talks on Pyongyang’s denuclearization. Donald Trump will finish his five-nation Asian trip by visiting the Philippines on November 12-14.
