"In the near future, Roskomnadzor will carry out a number of checks aimed at analyzing the Facebook administration’s activities on processing personal data of Russian users, procedures and terms of providing services and contents of local acts," the watchdog's press service has stated.
The Russian media watchdog has commented on media reports on Facebook's plans to open an office in Russia.

"The Facebook company has informed Roskomnadzor neither about its intention to open its office in Russia, nor about the wish to restore the personal data of Russian users at Russian servers, as required by Federal Law 242 on the localization of personal data of Russian citizens in the country," the watchdog said.
These measures are connected to the amendments to the law on personal data protection in effect since September 1, 2015, requiring foreign companies operating on the Russian market or with Russian customers to localize the data of the country's users on the territory of Russia. Under this law, Roskomnadzor can ban companies in case of their failure to comply with the legal norms.

One of the well known social networks, LinkedIn, headquartered in the United States, failed to follow this law and has been blocked by Russian Internet providers.
