According to al-Manar television, the Syrian army has entered Abu Kemal, the last largest Daesh stronghold in Syria, after surrounding the town.
An informed source on the ground has confirmed the report to Sputnik, saying, "The Syrian army has completely surrounded Abu Kemal," adding that government forces plan to crush the last Daesh hotbed in the next several days.
The government forces' offensive on Abu Kemal has come several days after massive strikes conducted by the Russian long-range aviation and submarines on Daesh targets, mostly command posts and arms depots, in the area.
