WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Congress should hold a hearing into President Donald Trump eldest son’s reported communications with WikiLeaks, US Senator Ben Cardin said in an interview on Wednesday.
"This is extremely troublesome and it really does require a congressional hearing," Cardin, a Democrat from Maryland, told CNN.
Earlier in the day, local media reported that WikiLeaks had repeatedly tried to reach out to Donald Trump Jr. throughout 2016 election campaign on Twitter. Though he largely ignored the messages, Trump Jr. responded to at least three, according to The Atlantic.
After the allegations surfaced, Trump Jr. posted his full interaction with WikiLeaks on his Twitter account, adding that he had previously disclosed the communication to congressional panels.
"Here is the entire chain of messages with @wikileaks (with my whopping 3 responses) which one of the congressional committees has chosen to selectively leak. How ironic!" Trump Jr. said in a message that accompanied the documents posted to Twitter on Monday.

Numerous panels in the Senate and House of Representatives are currently investigating the Trump campaign, Russia and the 2016 US presidential elections.
Russian officials have repeatedly denied all allegations the country meddled in the US election, dismissing the accusations as absurd and intended to deflect public attention from actual election fraud and corruption as well as other issues.
