German Officials to Detonate Unexploded WWII-Era Bomb in Stuttgart
21:15 GMT 16.11.2017 (Updated: 09:17 GMT 18.11.2022) US military facilities in Stuttgart, Germany, the capital of the southwest Baden-Württemberg state, are to shut down so authorities can detonate a newly found 500-pound, World War II-era bomb.
"Munitions experts have determined the unexploded bomb could not be dismantled," US Army Garrison-Stuttgart (USAG-Stuttgart) said in a November 16 announcement.
According to the Stuttgart Citizen, German authorities will blow the bomb up on Sunday, November 19.

In addition to the temporarily closed military buildings, "both the Stuttgart High School and Stuttgart Elementary School will be closed and cleared of personnel," said USAG-Stuttgart.
Local residents have been advised to steer clear of the area on November 19.
According to the Smithsonian Magazine, more than 2,000 tons of unexploded ordnance are discovered in Germany on an annual basis. In November 2013, some 20,000 people had to leave the town of Dortmund while munitions experts defused a 4,000-pound bomb.
