The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s Foundation Board has decided to keep its headquarters in Montreal after the expiration of the current contract.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s decision-making body on Thursday accepted Canada’s offer to keep its headquarters in Montreal after the contract expires in four years.

"The Foundation Board approves the proposal by the Canadian and Quebec governments. WADA's headquarters will therefore remain in Montreal from 2021-2031," WADA tweeted.

The 38-member board met in Seoul, South Korea to discuss an extension to the contract that allowed WADA to stay in Montreal until 2021. The office was opened in 2002 and the contract was extended once in 2009.

Quebec's International Relations Minister Christine St-Pierre said earlier this week she was optimistic that WADA would accept the offer to prolong the deal for at least ten years.
