LONDON (Sputnik) — The British secretary in charge of Brexit, David Davis, appealed Thursday for an unseen before UK-EU integration after the nation quits in less than two years.
"We will be a third country partner like no other. Much closer than Canada, much bigger than Norway, and uniquely integrated on everything from energy networks to services," he told a Berlin economic forum, as quoted by The Guardian newspaper.
The senior official in Prime Minister Theresa May’s government warned the European Union against "putting politics above prosperity" in an attempt to punish the nation for leaving. The exit date will be set in an amendment to the Brexit bill for March 29, 2019.
Negotiators from London and Brussels have so far been unable to proceed to the second stage of Brexit talks that will deal with their future ties, including trade, over a disagreement on UK’s "divorce bill" related to its spending commitments.
